In a volleyball game that featured some long rallies, hard hits, and dramatic defense on both sides, the Patriots picked up a huge 281 conference victory over the Wolsey-Wessington Warbirds.
In set one, both teams came out swinging and making huge plays as the teams had several ties through out the the set. The two teams went right down to the wire, but the Patriots secured the set one win by a score of 25-22.
Set two, the Patriots found themselves down most of the set. The Patriots made a run late behind the serving of Isabel Gilbert. The ladies clawed their way back into the match and would eventually tie the set up and take the lead. The Patriots would finish set two by a score of 25-22.
The final set proved to be close most of the way also until the Patriots went on a serving run and got a little separation from the Warbirds. The Warbirds made another run at the end, but came up short as the Patriots would take the last set by a score of 25-19 and win the match 3-0.
The Patriots had several players hit the ball hard all night and make big plays. Katelyn Schroeder led the offense with 19 kills. Rebecca Huizenga had a nice night at the net and tallied 8 kills. Ella Johnson finished with 6 kills. Lila Johnson tallied 22 assists in the contest and Gracyn Bixler recorded 15.
The ladies did not have a ton of aces in the match, but used their serving to keep the Warbirds out of system. There were only 4 aces recorded in the match, with Isabel Gilbert tallying two of the aces.
The Patriots had a nice night on defense as there were some great digs in blocks in the contest. Cambree Hoekman led the digs with 13, followed by Schroeder with 11, and Lila Johnson with 9. Cora Hofer had a big night at the net as she recorded 4 blocks on the net, 2 solo and 2 assists.
The Patriots (7-0) will be right back in action at the Clark-Willow Lake Tournament on Saturday. First match will be at 10:00 a.m. versus Waverly-South Shore, followed by an 11:00 a.m. match versus Wilmot.
